I'd love to have health insurance for my wife and three kids. But as it is now and has been for the last few years we can barely pay our bills and literally have to skip meals sometimes. I understand the penalty for not having health insurance for a family the penalty would be $2,085 or 2.5 percent of household income, whichever is greater. We also somehow make too much money for Government assistance in any form (not even food stamps!). I looked into insurance prices and they are quite a bit higher than the tax penalty. I'm assuming if I can't pay that extra tax penalty, it would be treated like any other debt to the IRS and they will garnish my wages. But what if we have no regular paycheck for them to garnish? Also is my assumption wrong? Is there different penalty for those who can't this specific tax penalty?

Hey, three weeks ago, I got into a car accident and rear ended someone in the front with suv. I had a honda, and the insurance company declared it totaled and they are going to pay around 9k for the car. Since it was rear-end accident, insurance company held me for 100% at fault. The suv had broken/dented bumper and lower part of trunk lid dented (No broken lights or anything). I would say around few thousand dollars worth of damage. There were 3 people in the car and at the time they said they are all ok, and drove off. No police report was filed. When I called at night to get one of the guy's birthday, he said all three went to emergency, and had whiplash pain in neck area (which is understandable from rear-end accident). I had full coverage so I know my insurance comp. would pay their bills. The thing I am scared about is what if they sue me? I'm in IL, and my policy renewal is Aug 18th and my 25th birthday is Aug 12th. Can I expect a savings on this renewal from State Farm in IL. No accidents, claims, nothing in 8 years. Or is it a myth that car insurance drops at 25???
